One of the concepts we are most proud of at Recipo is our recycling system called “Secure Collect.” In our pursuit of creating a circular economy where we can reuse more and recycle better, this system has been the solution to many challenges.
What is Secure Collect?
Secure Collect is not only a type of container for electronics but also a comprehensive recycling system for electronic devices containing personal information. It is ideal for recycling your computer, smartphone, tablet, or similar items.
We understand that it can be uncomfortable to part with a mobile phone or laptop that contains or has contained private information. Therefore, all our collection containers are locked and only opened once they are delivered to the recycling company we have partnered with. There, personal data is securely removed using specialized software.

The Recycling Process for Personal Electronics
For us, it is important to be transparent about how we take care of private electronic gadgets and how we recycle electronics in a sustainable way.
1. Transport Containers to the Recycling Company
Our locked containers are transported to the recycling company, where they remain sealed until they are inside the facility. Arriving here only authorized personnel can open them.
2. Determine Reusable Items
Professional recyclers at the facility sort through the electronics and determine whether any mobile phones, computers, or tablets can be reused, either in their entirety or as spare parts.
3. Erase Personal Data
Next, a software program is used on all devices earmarked for reuse. The program ensures that all personal data is destroyed, and the devices are factory reset.
4. Recycle Remaining Electronic Waste
Items that do not meet the standards for reuse undergo a recycling process. All materials are separated and crushed to be used in new products.
Whether the products are reused or recycled, you can be confident that your personal data cannot be accessed after destruction or factory reset.

Secure Collect for Retailers
Since it is a legal requirement in most Nordic countries for all electronics retailers to accept used electronics, Secure Collect’s containers are an ideal solution for stores receiving old electronics such as computers, phones, or similar items.
The container is compact enough to fit inside a store without taking up too much space. Transporting it between the store and the recycling center is therefore not a problem.
Secure Collect in Collaboration with Elgiganten
Secure Collect’s electronic recycling container was developed in collaboration with the major electronics chain Elgiganten. The goal of this partnership was to create a system where people feel secure about turning in their old electronics.
As a result, electronic containers are now available in most Elgiganten and Elkøp stores in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark.
