Electronics, Batteries & Packaging

Recipo – A Leading PRO

Recipo is an approved Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, we also cover the entire Nordic region through partnerships in Finland. We oversee everything from collection to recycling, ensuring that it is done safely and environmentally friendly.

In Europe, there is producer responsibility for all companies that produce and sell electronics, batteries, and packaging. For businesses, this means they must pay for the collection and recycling of these products.

The cost and pricing for collection and recycling depend on several factors, such as the volume of electronics or batteries you sell and the types of products you introduce to the market. At Recipo, we can assist you with all aspects of producer responsibility, starting by explaining what a collection system entails.

What Is a Collection System?

An actual collection system is one where waste is gathered for reuse or recycling. If you fall under producer responsibility, you need to connect with a PRO that assists with everything from reporting to authorities to the pickup and recycling of electronic waste, batteries and packaging.

Recipo handles the collection of electronic waste, batteries and packaging

Our goal is to make producer responsibility easier for you while also managing the entire process with climate considerations in mind.
All used products that we collect are sorted and analyzed to determine what can be reused and what should be recycled. The more we can reuse and recycle into new products, the smaller our environmental footprint becomes.

Recipo’s In-Store Collection

Since 2015, electronics stores have been obligated to accept electronic waste. This means that all these stores must connect with an approved producer responsibility organization (PRO). Recipo assists you in structuring an in-store collection and handles pickup so that you do not have to spend time on this but can instead focus on selling your products.

Secure Collect Container

As part of our collection system, we’ve developed the Secure Collect system in collaboration with Elgiganten. You’ll find it in large Elgiganten and Elkøp stores. Anyone can drop off memory media such as smartphones, laptops, and tablets free of charge. The discarded electronics are placed in our locked Secure Collect container, and any data is securely destroyed by authorized personnel in a locked and camera-monitored facility.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who pays for recycling?

Since producer responsibility became law in the mid-90s, it has been decided that those who put a product on the market are also the ones who must pay for the recycling. In this way, it motivates producers to create products that are easy to recycle.

Why should you leave all kinds of batteries for the battery collection?

The main reason why you should always hand in batteries in a battery collection is because they contain materials that are hazardous to the environment. If batteries are handed in for recycling, the environmentally hazardous material can be taken care of and plastic and metals can be recycled.

How are electronics reused?

Electronics go through a sorting process where the different components are sorted according to material. After that, the materials are crushed separately and can then be reused in new products. Everything from plastics to metals can actually be reused.
