Recipo and VANA Join Forces in Strong Partnership

Uncategorized

Managing multiple producer responsibilities shouldn’t be a hassle for businesses. That’s why Denmark’s largest collective scheme for packaging, VANA, and the Nordic region’s leading scheme for electronics, Recipo, have entered into a partnership.

The main goal of producer responsibility is to encourage companies to choose greener solutions. When businesses are required to register, report, and pay for specific products and materials they put on the market, it becomes financially smarter to go with more sustainable options.

In Denmark, there are seven different types of producer responsibility, and it’s quite common for companies to be affected by more than one. That’s why VANA and Recipo have now teamed up to offer a joint solution covering packaging, electronics, and batteries.

“It’s clear to us that Danish companies prefer an easy and reliable setup where they can manage all their producer responsibilities in one place – handled by experts in each area. That’s exactly what we’re offering now,” says Marianne Roed Jakobsen, CEO of VANA.

Reporting Weighs Heavily on Many Businesses

When the extended producer responsibility for packaging comes into effect on October 1st in Denmark, around 7,000 companies will be impacted. From that point on, all companies that place packaging on the Danish market will be responsible for it throughout its entire life cycle – including after it’s discarded and sorted as waste by the end user.

In addition to batteries and electronics, there’s already producer responsibility for cars, tobacco filters, and single-use plastic products. Collective producer responsibility schemes – like VANA and Recipo – can take over one or more responsibilities on behalf of member companies, allowing them to focus on their core business. VANA is Denmark’s largest collective scheme for packaging, while Recipo is the leading Nordic partner for electronics and battery producer responsibility.

“Many companies are saying that the paperwork around sustainability has become so overwhelming that it gets in the way of their day-to-day work. Our partnership with VANA means businesses can now report their sales of batteries, electronics, and packaging all in one place,” says Per Runchel, Country Manager at Recipo Denmark.

A Simple and Efficient Reporting System

Companies with producer responsibility in Denmark – whether it’s for electronics, packaging, or both – must cover the cost of collection, sorting, and recycling of the materials they put on the market. They also need to register with the Danish Producer Responsibility system and regularly report accurate sales and waste data.

Thanks to the new partnership between VANA and Recipo, companies affected by multiple producer responsibilities will now only need one agreement to report their sales of batteries, electronics, and packaging. This simplifies things and makes the whole process much more efficient.

More than 2,000 Danish companies are already covered by producer responsibility for electronics and batteries. From October 1, 2025, around 7,000 companies will also fall under packaging responsibility. The new packaging regulation is expected to cost producers around DKK 2.35 billion annually, covering the collection, sorting, and recycling of packaging materials.

About VANA and Recipo

VANA is a collective scheme founded by Dansk Industri, Dansk Erhverv, Landbrug & Fødevarer, and DagSam. With many of the country’s largest companies as members, it’s Denmark’s biggest packaging scheme.

Recipo is the Nordic region’s leading partner for producer responsibility in electronics and batteries. The organization also operates similar partnerships in Sweden and Finland to help electronics companies across the Nordic market meet legal requirements and take responsibility for efficient recycling.
